Android 8.1 Oreo Developer Preview can now be downloaded on the Pixel and Nexus: we explain how

A few months ago we finally met Android 8.0 Oreo with all its new features and, with this new version, the manufacturers started to announce as quickly as possible the terminals that would see that update and the approximate term. With the arrival of the Pixel 2, in addition, was expected to arrive Android 8.1 with some more news, but finally was not.

  • Nexus 5X

  • Google Pixel 2 XL

How to install Android 8.1 Developer Preview

With the companion terminals listed in the previous section, there are two ways to get Android 8.1 Developer Preview. The first is entering the betas Android program through this link. The other way is to manually flash the system image in your terminal.

In the first method, after registering you just have to wait for the OTA to arrive and enjoy when the process is finished. For those who want to flash the system, the image is a little more complicated. The first recommendation is to back up all your data, as this process will erase all data on your device.

Once you have done this, you just have to follow the instructions to the letter that gives Google in your web, making sure, yes, that you have the Android SDK installed and that your mobile connects properly with your computer to avoid problems during the process. It will also be necessary that the mobile bootloader is unlocked.

If you flash the image by hand, you will not receive the OTA from the following Developer Preview, but if you change your mind, by entering the Android betting program at any time you can receive them.

Are you one of the lucky holders of one of these terminals and you are excited to try Android 8.1?
